The Residence is responsible for producing gold. The reason they are the main producers of gold is because they are responsible for property taxes. When upgraded it increases the production rate and the max storage. Gold is most important resource in the game. Gold is used to upgrade, attack, unlocking areas on your map and submarine dives.
